New Knauf Futurepanel – the first carbon neutral plasterboard – turns the government’s Code for Sustainable Homes into action by combining excellent sound and fire resistance with outstanding green credentials. Futurepanel reduces embedded CO2 – the carbon footprint of a house before the first owners move in.
Up to 35% of carbon emitted in a building’s lifetime comes from the manufacture of building materials and the construction process.
Futurepanel’s core is at least 10% recycled gypsum, the rest is from the most sustainable sources available, and the liners are 100% recycled paper. Any remaining carbon is removed through energy efficient manufacturing and carbon offsetting.
Futurepanel is a 10kg/m2 premium plasterboard that substitutes for standard Wallboard in partition and lining specifications, giving identical or better system performance. It already contributes to superior environmental performance in residential and commercial buildings across the UK.
And now for something completely different - see the Futurepanel flash movie...
At Knauf Drywall we are actively reducing energy usage in our factories and investing heavily in technology and renewable fuel sources, such as wind, to remove carbon at source. Our Futurepanel carbon offsetting programme involves investment in projects that remove carbon by providing communities with renewable energy sources such as hydro-electric power stations and biomass boilers.
We constantly search for new ways to remove carbon and reduce the need to offset. But whatever the mix, we will ensure that Futurepanel is totally carbon neutral.
